Navigating in national specs and organizations
Host: Jan Outters Reporter: Jan Outters Session goal: Is there is a need for information from / towards DVB markets?
Summary of discussion:
Starting point for this session was a member explaining that he has no visibility on who is responsible for national specifications. It was discussed whether such information could be made available. In a more general view, should this be integrated into a deployment support as in past achieved by DIGITAG.
Speakers expressed rapidly a consensus that an observatory center to know where and how the specs are to be deployed would be beneficial.
- Centralized information on features / profiles deployed
- Help to select technologies for countries
Potential features
- Start at very high level – small granularity
- Contact details to the people responsible /authorities (subject to GDPR compliance)
- Allow countries to upload their own data to reduce the workload DVB PO
- Allow for operators subdivisions ?
- Allows to extract best practices
- Links to the market requirements
- Information on what is deployed (sometimes mandate)
- Including a trial section
- Including End of Life
Promotional activities to explain and to create awareness
- Invite authorities to events like dvb world to convey information and address topics in connection with dvb standards (e.g. usability)
- Webinars for a start
- DVB has potentially special status stands out from « classical lobbying groups »
Deployment support in markets
- National regulators could benefit from some guiding information
- Flexible way of functioning
- Common dvb and hbbtv deployment office
- Statement of purpose quite open
- Dvb and hhbtv board to provide directions
- If sister body is created, members of the boards decide
Scope for implementation profiles
- ITF is filling the implementation feature status for DVB-I.
- There was no further activity required for the time being.
Next steps:
-raise the above proposal towards the PCM, PO and SB
-explore organisational and potential funding aspects.
